3 ways to determine Magento version number

Submitted by metaharper - 5 years ago

In the midst of trying to address an issue post-upgrade for client's site, I realized I needed to check the old site's version number. I'll cover the 3 methods outlined at: http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/groups/227/check_magento_version

// Method 1
// If you have access to site's admin panel, log in and scroll
// to the footer where you should see something like this....

Magento ver. X.X.X

// Method 2
// If you don't have access to the admin panel but the site is still up,
// navigate to yourdomain.com/downloader where you will be presented with an
// admin panel for Magento Connect. At the bottom you'll see the version number

Magento ver. X.X.X

// Method 3
// If you have acccess to neither of previous but have access to the codebase as I did,
// open up the file app/Mage.php and do a search for "getVersionInfo". This is what
// it looks like for a install of Community Edition

    public static function getVersionInfo()
        return array(
            'major'     => '1',
            'minor'     => '5',
            'revision'  => '1',
            'patch'     => '0',
            'stability' => '',
            'number'    => '',
// Method 4: BONUS Method!!!
// It seems that the /downloader login page shows the Magento Connect version in the
// bottom-right which happens to correspond to the Magento version.
// I haven't found a version of Magento yet where this wasn't correct.
// REALLY old version of Magento don't seem to list any version info. :(
